Istanbul 2020 Chairman Hasan Arat stressed that Istanbul 2020 represents a safe choice for the Olympic Movement and an unrivalled opportunity for International Sports Federations.
Istanbul 2020 will travel to St. Petersburg – a Sister City of Istanbul – with its most senior delegation. The team will comprise Youth and Sports Minister, Suat Kılıç; Istanbul 2020 Chairman, Hasan Arat; President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey, Professor Uğur Erdener; Istanbul 2020 CEO, Ali Kiremitçioğlu; Istanbul 2020 Sports Director, Alp Berker; Olympian and volleyball star, Neslihan Darnel; plus representatives of the seven Istanbul 2020 sponsors who between them have contributed the largest private sector investment of any Turkish bid in history.
Istanbul 2020 Chairman, Hasan Arat, said, For 20 years, hosting the Games has been one of our nation’s deepest ambitions. St. Petersburg is one of Istanbul’s Sister Cities, and it has 342 bridges. So what better place to share our message of unity with the Olympic Family: Bridge Together.”
Istanbul 2020’s hosting concept places the city’s iconic backdrop in the heart of the action, in order to inspire passionate support and top performance. Athletes will have access to world-class facilities to help them perform at their best. For the first time in history, the Olympic Village will be collocated with a state-of-the-art Training Precinct and a free-to-use Athlete Recovery Centre to minimise pre-competition travel.
President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey, Uğur Erdener, commented, “All athletes at Istanbul 2020 will have the world-class facilities they need in order to focus completely on their performance. On top of this, our inspirational sports presentation will drive them to new heights. I am confident Istanbul 2020 will create the unforgettable moments of sport history that captivate audiences worldwide.
“As the first ever Games in Turkey or the region, and the first to be held across two continents simultaneously, Istanbul 2020 represents an unrivalled opportunity for IFs to bridge to new audiences in fresh markets.”
