The city of Istanbul and the people of Istanbul meet their tulips. It is a good reason to travel to Istanbul and enjoy Istanbul’s parks that are decorated with beautiful tulips. Since 2005, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality annually organizes International Istanbul Tulip Festival in spring. This year’s tulip festival takes place until April 30, 2017.
Events will be held around the city this year as part of the International Istanbul Tulip Festival. The main exhibitions and festivities will take place at Taksim Square, Emirgan Woods, Hidiv Woods, Göztepe Rose Garden, Büyük Çamlıca Woods, Sultanahmet Square, and Gülhane Park during the Tulip Festival. In addition to selling tulip-themed products ranging from marblings to sculptures, there are also paintings, photo exhibitions, and concerts on exposition.
According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Park and Gardens Directorate, a total of 26 million 500 thousand tulips of 160 different varieties were planted. Tulips of 160 different varieties were grown by villagers from Silivri, Çatalca, Şile, Pamukova and Geyve as well as those in the Çumra district of the Central Anatolian province of Konya.
The tulip has become a symbol of the city of Istanbul since the period of Seljuk Turks up until our present time and it has become worthy of aesthetic admiration in every part of the society and has affiliated with the Turkish Culture with these works, returned back to its original motherland.
