Turkey’s tourism revenue slightly increases

According to the latest statistics by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Turkey’s tourism revenue increased 1% and reached to US$11 billion 502 million 665 thousand in the Q3 2018.

While 81.8% of this revenue (excluding GSM roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors, 18.2% was obtained from citizens resident abroad.

Visitors organise their travel individually or with package tour. While individual expenditures constituted US$ 7 billion 946 million 375 thousand of the total tourism revenue, US$ 3 billion 556 million 289 thousand of tourism revenue was obtained by package tour expenditures.

In this quarter while average expenditure of the foreigners was US$ 589 per capita, average expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident abroad was US$ 724 per capita.

In this quarter number of departing visitors increased by 12.7% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 18 million 786 thousand 765 persons. While 84.7% of visitors was foreign with 15 million 904 thousand 734 persons, 15.3% of them was Turkish citizens resident abroad with 2 million 882 thousand 31 persons.

Tourism expenditure which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, decreased by 22.5% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to US$ 1 billion 209 million 379 thousand. While US$ 852 million 91 thousand of total expenditures was individual expenditures, US$ 357 million 288 thousand of tourism expenditures was package tour expenditures.

In this quarter number of Turkish citizens visited abroad decreased by 9.9% compared to same quarter of previous year and declined to 2 million 265 thousand 796 persons. Average expenditure was $ 534 per capita.
