Recent data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) indicates a slight decline in the average life expectancy at birth for Turkish citizens.

The figures for the 2020-2022 period show an average life expectancy of 77.5 years, a decrease from 77.7 years in the 2019-2021 period.

The data further highlights a gender disparity in life expectancy. Women in Türkiye outlive men by an average of 5.5 years. Specifically, while men have a life expectancy of 74.8 years, women can expect to live up to 80.3 years.

TurkStat also provided insights into the remaining life expectancy at various ages. For instance, at the age of 15, which marks the onset of working age, the average remaining life expectancy is 63.5 years. By age 30, this figure drops to 48.9 years, and by age 50, it stands at 29.8 years. Those who reach the age of 65 can expect an average of 17.1 more years. (AA)
