As country manager, Sawant will work from his base in Mumbai to assist GetThere’s stable of multi-national corporate clients as they expand their online travel programmes and introduce GetThere’s booking tool.

Sawant brings extensive experience in the managed travel arena to the new role. He has held senior management positions with Thomas Cook, a prominent travel management company, and the Taj Mahal Group (part of TaTa). He has expertise in account acquisition, retention and the execution of complex travel programme initiatives in the Indian marketplace.

Sawant will report to GetThere APAC regional director, Grant Rattray.

Rattray said: “Swapnil is the right person to lead GetThere through what promises to be a period of tremendous growth in India in 2013 and beyond. His deep understanding of TMC processes – both globally and regionally – makes him the ideal man to manage our vital relationships with the travel management community and our Abacus partners as we support mutual clients across India.”

GetThere has recorded notable growth in India in recent years, primarily due to expansions into the country by prominent global corporations who use GetThere on multiple continents. Today, GetThere has more than a dozen clients in India using its service. GetThere bookings in India through September 2012 are up more than 50% percent year-over-year.
