Dr Alfred Tacke (64) has come in to strengthen the Board of Directors at Air Berlin PLC with immediate effect.
A native of lower Saxony, he worked as Undersecretary of State at the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport in Lower Saxony from 1991 to 1998 before his appointment as Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology. The widely respected industry expert held a variety of offices during this period, among others as a delegate tasked with preparing the World Economic Summit (G8).
The qualified economist was subsequently appointed CEO of Steag AG – an international energy provider headquartered in Essen (renamed Evonik Industries in 2007), where he managed the company’s affairs from 2005 to 2008. He sat on the KPMG Europe Public Interest Committee from October 2010 to October 2013.

Heinz-Peter Schlüter, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Trimet Aluminium AG in Essen, joined the Board of Directors at Air Berlin PLC on 1 April 2008. He has stepped down from the board at his own request.
