Turkey achieves 30.1% increase in Tourism Income in Q2 2018

Turkish Statistical Institute announced that Turkey achieved a 30.1% increase in tourism income in the second quarter of 2018 and reached to US$ 7 billion 44 million 591 thousand. While 84.7% of this income (excluding GSM roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors and 15.3% was obtained from citizens living abroad.

Visitors organize their travel individually or with a package tour. While individual expenditures constituted  US$5 billion 463 million 809 thousand of the total tourism income, US$1 billion 580 million 782 thousand of tourism income was obtained by package tour expenditures.

The average expenditure of visitors was US$636 per capita
In this quarter while the average expenditure of foreigners was US$602 per capita, the average expenditure of Turkish citizens resident abroad was US$885 per capita.

Number of departing visitors increased by 24.9%
In this quarter the number of departing visitors increased by 24.9% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 11 million 67  thousand  987  persons. While  89% of visitors were foreign  with 9 million 855 thousand 102 persons, 11% of them was Turkish citizens resident abroad with 1 million 212 thousand 885 persons.

Tourism expenditure increased by 19%  
Tourism expenditure which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, increased by 19% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to US$1 billion  650 million 276 thousand. While US$1 billion 421 million 872 thousand of total expenditures was individual expenditures, US$228 million 404 thousand of tourism expenditures was package tour expenditures.

Number of Turkish citizens visited abroad decreased by 4.4%
In this quarter the number of Turkish citizens visited abroad decreased by 4.4% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and declined to 2 million 194 thousand 58 persons. Average expenditure was US$752 per capita.
