2015’s new TV series Bloodline, which is expected to premiere Friday, March 20, on the streaming media provider Netflix, will showcase the Florida Keys. The 13-episode psychological thriller was filmed at various Keys locations, primarily in the Upper Keys between Key Largo and Islamorada. The TV series is expected to increase travel to the region.
Filming a television series or movie in a region has been seen to have dramatic effects on tourist visitation and expectations. Regardless of its form, real-life documentaries or fictional fantasy tales, films have always been a way for viewers to encounter other places. The natural scenery, exciting locations, storyline themes and human relationships portrayed in the film and tv series are all recognized as motivators for people to visit certain locations.
Stars of the Bloodline include Oscar-winner Sissy Spacek, Emmy-winner Kyle Chandler, ER veteran Linda Cardellini and noted Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn.
The plot follows the dramatic exploits of the Rayburns, depicted as a contemporary island family — hard working, but with hidden secrets that threaten to expose a shameful past and test sibling loyalty.
According to Netflix, the action is sparked by the return of a black-sheep Rayburn son.
