Las Vegas under terror attack

Las Vegas Police Department has shut down Las Vegas Strip. According to media reports the sniper is believed to have opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay resort and casino, located across a junction from the event.

Police confirmed that one suspect had been killed. Those listening to police scanners reported that the shooter was killed. Several unconfirmed reports claimed that "two or three" gunmen were shooting from the 32nd floor of the hotel.

A police officer was reported to be among those shot as Jason Aldean, the American country music singer, performed towards the end of the concert.

Concert-goers reported seeing flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

It was the third and last night of the Route 91 Harvest festival. The stage was set up outside the Mandalay Bay resort. The event was sold-out and also featured country singers Eric Church and Sam Hunt.

At least 58 people were killed and over 500 injured according to the last reports.

Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says police officers engaged a suspect on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel; is now dead. "Right now we believe it's a sole actor, a lone wolf type actor," said Lombardo.

Lombardo also called for the public's help in searching for two vehicles registered to the suspect: a Hyundai Tucson with a Nevada license plate, 114B40, and a Chrysler Pacifica Touring, also with a Nevada license plate, 19D401.

The suspected gunman, killed by the police has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, NV. Officers are searching for his companion, Marilou Danley, who was seen with him in a car before the incident. Danley lived with Paddock.

Police said they had no information about Paddock’s motive, that he had no criminal record and was not believed to be connected to any militant group. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the shooting, saying the gunman converted to Islam months ago.

President Trump ordered all US flags on public grounds to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Friday.
