How Far Can You Go on a Lottery Win?

Winning the lottery is a distant dream for the large majority of us. Whenever anyone’s asked the question as to what they’d spend the resulting money on, the resulting answers are notoriously predictable – think new house, car, clothes, holiday, depositing it into a savings account (please note: this last group of people are almost always lying; they’d probably spend it faster than me or you).

In any case, most of the things on this list are necessities that we already have and just want to upgrade. What if you’re one of those people who have far more fanciful ideas for an extra wad of cash should it ever come into your possession? Well, you’re in luck. Below is a list of some of the more luxury activities you’ll surely be able to afford in the unlikely event that your numbers come up.

Swimming With Dolphins

Okay. Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way first. Most of the people who cite this as one of their long-term ambitions would about-turn and swim the other way if a dolphin so much as mustered a friendly click in their general direction. If you’re really up for it though, the most popular places to swim with dolphins are located in the Caribbean of the south of the USA and according to a Lottoland article on the costs of competing your lottery winner’s bucket list, the whole experience is likely to set you back at least $1,500. Ah well – at least you’ll have a new profile picture in waiting for the social media account of your choice.

See The Northern Lights

This is another quite typical activity which appears on many peoples lists but when you’ve truly seen the unrivalled beauty of the Aurora Borealis up close, you can’t argue with anyone wanting to experience it in person for themselves. Of course, the further North you go, the more likely you are to see the Northern Lights but the most popular destinations revolve around the Scandanavian countries and include Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, Kakslauttanen in Finland and Svalbard, which is located almost as far North that you can get in Norway without meeting an icy demise in the Norwegan Sea.

Climbing Mount Everest

Believe it or not, there’s also an option to skydive over Mount Everest but that will often set you back around $20,000 and that’s a hefty price to pay to be pushed out of a helicopter. This is the arguably the ultimate adrenaline fix for those who really want a sense of accomplishment but be warned – not only will this set you back around $5,000, there’s also a real risk of hurt and you have to know what you’re doing to get somewhere near the top. Plus there are Snow Leopards and Himalayan Black Bears to negotiate but hey, at least they won’t steal your lottery winnings.

You Never Know…

While the odds of you or anyone you know winning the lottery jackpot is fairly slim, the smaller cash prizes are definitely achievable and would certainly be enough to tick most things off your bucket list or whatever list you have in waiting. At the end of the day, if you’re lucky enough to win then you’re entitled to spend it how you please. We would, however, recommend visiting some of the aforementioned places, even if it’s just as a tourist. We won’t tell anyone that you’ve wimped out. Honest.
