Tourists Killed in Acapulco ahead of Tianguis Turistico

At least two tourists killed in Acapulco just one day before the start of Tianguis Turistico, the most important travel industry event celebrating the destination of Mexico.

According to local reports, the shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when an armed group opened fire on those inside a seafood restaurant in front of the recently remodeled waterfront next to the Buenosairean Zocalo on the coastal avenue of the Port of Acapulco. A 32-year-old Mexican-American from the city of Fresno, California died after at least six gun shots and his wife was injured and taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment.

Later on Saturday, two other men opened fire at a tourist district known as the Diana. According to the news at The Yucatan Times, at least one of the victims is identified as a tourist. Preliminary reports indicate that one of the victims died while the second ran for help towards “Las Palmas” condominiums.
