Panama Becomes A Member of Destinations International

Destinations International, the world’s largest resource for official destination organizations, convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) and tourism boards, today announced that Panama has become a member of the association.

PROMTUR Panamá, the country’s destination organization, has subscribed to the Meetings, Sports and Festivals and Cultural Events modules of the Event Impact Calculator (EIC), an industry tool used for measuring how events impact destinations. Panama joins 282 total destination organization EIC subscribers in 12 countries. The destination organization will also work toward implementing the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) to all cities within the country.

“We are thrilled to have Panama join Destinations International as a member,” said Don Welsh, President and CEO of Destinations International.

“We are excited to work with their team to further DMAP accreditation and grow EIC throughout the country. Now more than ever, data will play a critical role in our destinations as we recover. Destinations within Panama will now have the opportunity to utilize this tool as they measure the impact of their meetings and events. During these challenging and unprecedented times, we truly applaud PROMTUR Panama’s commitment to this partnership with Destinations International and Tourism Economics that will no doubt help expedite Panama’s recovery amidst the global pandemic.”

“As Panama’s destination organization, our decision to join Destinations International was an easy and natural partnership with a community of professionals and destinations which share a purpose: to improve sustainable development and quality of life through the travel and hospitality industry,” said Fernando Duque, Chair, Board of Directors of PROMTUR Panamá.

“We are sure that Destinations International will help Panama’s destination team, achieve its full potential as a world class, unique destination.”

“Events produce massive economic impact in host destinations, said Adam Sacks, President of Tourism Economics.

“The EIC allows destinations to measure these impacts as a guide to both policy and strategy decisions. As the world pushes for economic recovery, the EIC provides destinations with a tool that enables them to track the role of the events sector in driving the economic rebound.”
