U.S. media reported that the Al Qaeda published Inspire magazine encourages attack on U.S. Open.
English-language online publication of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula reminds readers to target popular events, such as the upcoming U.S. Open in its recent issue.
Rebecca Weiner, the NYPD's director of intelligence analysis, said at a briefing that the Queens venue was suggested as a target in the most recent edition of Inspire magazine. Weiner said the magazine detailed how to build a car bomb and suggested they be targeted at large gatherings of people, rather than buildings. She said the magazine listed locations in New York, Washington and Virginia.
The US Open will take place from August 25 to September 8, 2014.
