SWISS is to give its name to the stadium of the Kloten Flyers, the ice hockey club based in the town of Kloten next to Zurich Airport. From next season onwards, the stadium will be known as the “SWISS Arena”.
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has concluded a trilateral agreement with the town of Kloten and the Kloten Flyers ice hockey club over the naming rights for the club’s stadium. “I am delighted,” says René Huber, the Mayor of Kloten. “As one of our region’s biggest employers, SWISS is an ideal name sponsor for our stadium.”Club President Philippe Gaydoul is equally pleased. “What could be more appropriate,” he enthuses, “than for the Kloten Flyers to play in an arena that bears the name of our country’s airline?”
SWISS is already a partner of the Kloten Flyers, having been sponsoring the club’s youth teams for a number of years. The airline supports the community around its Zurich Airport hub in many other ways, too, including sponsoring local clubs and associations and arranging vacations for local children under the Pro Juventute banner. “So with the new SWISS Arena we’re showing a further clear commitment to the Zurich Airport region,” confirms SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister.
The stadium, which is owned by the town of Kloten, will be formally renamed the “SWISS Arena” on 1 May. The naming arrangement has been concluded for a six-year period. The new signage will be applied to the stadium and its access routes in good time for the start of the 2015/16 ice hockey season.
