Four issues that tell the Trouble the South African Cricket Team is in Right Now

Not a long time ago, we had a full ravaging South African cricket side feared by most teams around the world.

Then, came the retirement of AB De Villiers.

The Proteas have been having a rough patch for the past couple of games. The results have been disheartening, and it is clear that the game of cricket is facing a crisis.

The Proteas are coming off from the Sri Lankan tour which was supposed to get them back to their winning days. Of course, they did get to win their first match on Sri Lankan soil. They got a five-wicket in their first ODI in Dambulla. Even if you love playing low stakes online casinos, we are sure you have followed the Proteas for a long time now.

So, what is going wrong for them?

The problems the team is undergoing are clearly in the limelight. Let’s looks at the four problems they are facing.

1. Protea’s Success.

The question on everyone’s mind is ” how good are the Proteas?” has been lingering in for a while. The problems within the team have been going on since 2016.

One of the most remarkable events is when they failed a series of tests in India. Moreover, there were wrangles about the captaincy which was being coveted by Hashim Amla and AB Devillers.

However, when coach Ottis Gibson took over in September 2017, it seemed the problems were over. But they were hit with the biggest loss this year after AB Deviller retired.

After a glittering 14 years, the 34-year-old retired from international cricket. The Proteas still have professionals like Hashim Alma and David Miller but they have failed to find a convenient replacement for Deviller.

2. Cricket chaos in South Africa.

Proteas have tried to distance themselves from the boardroom wrangles of the Cricket South Africa(CSA). The governing issues are bound to affect how playing is done in South Africa.

These wrangles started last year in December when India toured South Africa. The board of Control for Cricket in India clashed with CSA over the tour schedule. In the end, these led to Three One day Internationals and Two Test matches.

Last year T20 Global league was postponed until November this year. This led to the original owners of T20 taking legal action against the CSA. Currently, T20 is under new management with Thabang Monroe.

3. National Depth

The role of feeder teams to train young cricket players has been warranting some debate. Two emerging teams lost both their Test and ODI series.

South Africa X and the SA Emerging Players XI have raised eyebrows since their last performances. But this does not mean they cannot level up in their upcoming quadrangular series.

4. Brain Drain

The South African cricket teams are losing viable men who could work as coaches. Some include Richard Pybus, Eric Simmons, and Gary Kirsten.

There are no new coaches who are emerging to take up positions that are left behind.
