English Premier League support Ukraine

English Premier League to Donate £1M to Ukraine

The English Premier League said Tuesday it will donate £1 million ($1.3 million) to Ukraine for the war against Russia.

“The Premier League and its clubs today unanimously agreed to suspend our agreement with Russian broadcast partner Rambler (Okko Sport) with immediate effect and to donate £1million to support the people of Ukraine,” the league said in a statement, that “strongly” condemned the Russian attack and called for peace.

“The £1million donation will be made to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to deliver humanitarian aid directly to those in need,” it added.

Russia’s war on Ukraine, which began Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 474 civilians have been killed and 861 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, according to the UN, while saying that conditions on the ground make it difficult to verify the true number.

Some 2 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, said the UN refugee agency.
