R. Crusoe & Son, a luxury tour operator that specializes in unusual, bespoke journeys for individual travelers, has just introduced exclusive, small-group Hosted Journeys to Japan and Russia.
These are the first tours in the 2013-2014 series of nine Hosted Journeys to be offered by R. Crusoe, with additional destinations being added later this year.
According to David Weber, Managing Director and Co-Founder, R. Crusoe & Son decided to expand its Hosted Journeys (in the past, the company has featured about two per year) based upon requests by its previous travelers.
The Hosted Journeys are led by experts in each destination who are selected for their insights and connections. The tours provide an incredible opportunity for travelers to venture beyond the typical pre-packaged tourist itineraries, go far behind the scenes, and enjoy special access to places not open to the general public.
The 11-day Japan Hosted Journey takes place from May 11 to 21, 2013 and is hosted by R. Crusoe's senior Asia Expert and Japan resident Alex Kerr. The trip provides an up-close and personal look at the art, architecture, history, food, politics, and religion of Japan as well as its immutable icons: the geisha and the garden.Special access highlights include a hands-on lesson in traditional Japanese arts; a visit to one of the world's most important Zen rock gardens; a tempura dinner with a geisha show, and private and intimate visits to art studios and galleries. Destinations include Kyoto, Nara, the Iya Valley, and Naoshima Island.
