Edinburgh Ranks As Most Expensive UK Destination This Summer

Edinburgh is the most expensive summer destination in the United Kingdom for travelers, according to a survey conducted by Cheaprooms.co.uk. The survey compared hotel rates across 40 popular destinations in the UK and Ireland for August 2015. Visitors to the Scottish capital will have to pay an average of £134 per night for the most affordable double room.

The primary reason for the high hotel rates in Edinburgh during this period is the annual hosting of the Edinburgh Festival, one of the world’s biggest arts and culture festivals, which runs from August 7th – 31st.

The second most expensive destination, according to the survey, is the city of Bath, where it will cost an average of £106 per night in August. London, meanwhile, ranks 5th in the survey with an average price of £97 for the least expensive double room. In seventh place is Inverness – the second Scottish destination to make it into the top 10 – which will cost an average of £95 per night.

At the other end of the scale, Blackpool comes out as the least expensive destination with an average of just £36 per night. Also affordable are Sheffield, Newcastle and Birmingham, where visitors are likely to find rooms below £50 per night, according to the survey.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive summer destinations in the UK and Ireland. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for each location’s cheapest available double room (minimum 3 star hotel) for the period spanning August 1st -31th.
