Songtsam, the highly acclaimed luxury boutique hotel collection and Destination Management Company, has just revealed their latest property: the Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso in Tibet. As a pioneering step in eco-conscious hospitality, this Retreat signifies Songtsam’s first foray into the realm of low-carbon hotels.
Located in the breathtaking historic Jieba village in Tibet, the 122-room luxury retreat marks the 16th and largest addition to Songtsam’s award-winning collection. With its soft opening announced and the official opening slated for mid-September, the new property showcases Songtsam’s commitment to sustainable development and cultural preservation.
The founder and chairman of Songtsam, Mr. Baima Duoji, expressed his hopes that the hotel’s unique location would attract more visitors to appreciate the remarkable beauty of the locale and immerse themselves in Tibetan culture. As part of its strategy for sustainable development, Songtsam has pledged to support local economic growth while conserving energy and reducing emissions.
“Songtsam’s goal of achieving zero-carbon implementation should serve as a model for other businesses in the area to also become more sustainable,” said Mr. Duoji.
The Songtsam Linka Retreat Lake Basong Tso features rooms and suites that showcase a beautiful blend of Tibetan architecture and modern design. These accommodations offer diffused oxygen supply systems for guests’ comfort at the high-altitude location. The Retreat also features a restaurant, spa, gym, and a co-branded Arc’teryx living room, all equipped with similar oxygen supply systems.
Supporting local employment is another facet of Songtsam’s commitment to the community. The hotel expects to generate at least 120 jobs for villagers from the local community. Additionally, 5% of the Retreat’s annual operating income will be given to the adjacent Jieba village.
Guests can explore the living traditions of Gongbu Tibetans in Jieba village and partake in a variety of activities in the scenic surroundings of Lake Basong Tso. From hiking to spiritual pilgrimages to the tranquil Doqin Monastery, there’s something for everyone at this new retreat.
