As part of its annual Daily Rates report, global mobility expert, ECA International (ECA), has revealed the average cost of four-star hotels in popular European city break locations.
According to ECA’s annual report, Latvia’s vibrant and cultural capital city Riga offers the cheapest four-star hotels, costing just GBP 98 (USD 127) per night on average. Conversely, Brits will find themselves paying GBP 194 (USD 250) more in Geneva, Switzerland, the most expensive city in Europe.
Other than Latvia, Brits looking for a hotel under £150 a night have several options, including Zagreb, Croatia at GBP 105 (USD 136) per night, the Portuguese capital Lisbon at GBP 119 (USD 153) per night and Malta GBP 110 (USD 142) per night. Other popular destinations include Prague and Budapest, both of which cost GBP 133 (USD 172) a night on average.
Scandinavian hotels continue to be some of the most expensive in Europe with Reykjavik in Iceland seeing the biggest increase, rising by a staggering GBP 40 (USD 52) a night to GBP 237 (USD 307), making it GBP 31 (USD 41) more expensive than Copenhagen and GBP 59 (USD 77) more expensive than Stockholm. The cheapest hotels in the region can be found in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, known as one of the world’s best winter sports hubs, costing visitors GBP 175 (USD 266) a night.
Steven Kilfedder, Production Manager at ECA International, said “Hotel prices in Reykjavik have risen as demand from tourists and business travellers has outstripped supply in the Icelandic capital, though with the collapse of WOW air and rising prices, it remains to be seen if demand will continue to remain as strong in the future.”
Closer to home, hotels in Paris and London are amongst the most expensive in Europe, with a four-star hotel costing GBP 280 (USD 362) and GBP 251 (USD 324) respectively, whereas a night in Dublin will cost significantly less at GBP 151 (USD 195).
