Uber & Lyft Drop Mask Requirements

US ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft on Tuesday dropped mask requirements for passengers and drivers.

“You can now ride without a mask and use the front seat if you need to,” read an Uber statement.

“While mask usage is still recommended, we’ve updated our COVID safety policies.”

Lyft said in a statement that “wearing a mask is now optional for everyone in the car.”

“Riders and drivers are no longer required to keep the front seat empty or the windows open,” the statement said.

“We know that everyone has different comfort levels, and anyone who wants to continue wearing a mask is encouraged to do so.”

The move comes a day after a federal judge in Florida struck down a national rule enforcing masks on planes, trains, buses and other public transport.

Major airlines United, Delta, Alaska, American and Southwest Airlines have all dropped their mask mandates and said masks will now be optional on flights.
