Istanbul Airport Metro Opens, 1-Month Free Rides

A 34-kilometer (21-mile) metro now links Istanbul city railway transportation with Istanbul Airport, Türkiye’s largest and one of the biggest airports in the world.

Speaking at the Kagithane-Istanbul Airport Metro Opening Ceremony, Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the airport metro will be free for 1 month.

Starting from Kağıthane station and extending to Istanbul Airport, the 34-kilometer-long 8-station metro line will transport travelers from Kağıthane to Istanbul Airport in 24 minutes.

The metro route has a daily capacity of 800 thousand passengers.

With the Gayrettepe section becoming operational in the coming months, the line length will reach 37.5 kilometers.
