In a move that showcases its commitment to expanding its retail presence in Southwest China, Cartier has introduced its newest luxury boutique at Terminal 3 of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
This strategic unveiling reflects Cartier’s intent to strengthen its travel retail strategy within the burgeoning Chinese market.
Chongqing’s economic prowess is undeniable. Positioned near the upper Chang Jiang River, the city’s GDP last year ranked among the top five in China. Moreover, in the wake of the pandemic, it has emerged as one of the most sought-after domestic travel destinations.[1]
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, a bustling hub in Southwest China, continues to see an influx of tourists. Perfectly situated at the heart of Terminal 3’s luxury retail section, Cartier’s latest boutique invites travelers to immerse themselves in the brand’s opulent offerings within a captivating environment.
The boutique, spread across 190 square meters, epitomizes the confluence of elegance and simplicity. It intricately weaves Cartier’s heritage, fusing elements of softness with fervor. A highlight for visitors is the iconic panther fresco that Cartier has juxtaposed against the city’s distinct architectural backdrop. Splashes of radiant red and gold illuminate the space, symbolizing untamed vitality. The boutique’s interior is adorned with fluted patterns that resonate with Chongqing’s vibrant energy. Additionally, a circular ceiling pattern embellished with a golden finish adds allure.
Inside, the women’s section showcases an exquisite array of jewelry, timepieces, and accessories, set against a serene champagne backdrop accentuated by modern chandeliers. The men’s section draws inspiration from the earth, with walls adorned in bronze-toned foliage, emanating calmness and rejuvenation. Meanwhile, the bridal section celebrates the city’s breathtaking natural vistas with golden mesh panels illustrating overlapping mountains. The entire boutique is a harmonious blend of Chongqing’s charm with Cartier’s classic aesthetic.
Virginie Martignac, Cartier’s Global Travel Retail Director, emphasized the brand’s vision for this venture, “Chongqing is central to Cartier’s travel retail ambitions in China. By establishing this boutique at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, we fortify our strategic presence in a pivotal domestic travel nexus. Our aim is to transcend traditional airport shopping, offering Chinese travelers a heightened experience. This expansion underscores our dedication to deepening our imprint on China’s travel retail landscape. We’re excited to bring Cartier’s rendition of this mountainous city, along with our iconic collections and unmatched hospitality, to the global traveler in the years to come.”
