Thailand is set to dazzle visitors with a series of winter festivals, celebrating its rich cultural and creative heritage from November through December 2024.
The exciting lineup, known as the ‘7 Wonders of Thailand,’ will offer a diverse range of events that highlight the nation’s culture, cuisine, music, and sports, positioning Thailand as a world-class destination for international events.
Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and supported by various public and private sector partners, the winter festivals will take place across the country, showcasing the best of Thailand’s unique traditions and modern flair.
Among the most iconic events is the Loi Krathong Festival, which will light up locations across Thailand. Major celebrations will include Bangkok’s Delightful Colours of the River (13-16 November), Sukhothai’s Loi Krathong and Candle Festival (8-18 November), and Chiang Mai’s Yi Peng Festival (14-17 November). This beloved festival, where decorative floats are set adrift on rivers, will bring together locals and visitors to honor tradition in a spectacular display.
New Year’s celebrations will also be grand, with the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2025 happening at various locations from 28 December to 1 January. Fireworks, concerts, and merit-making ceremonies will highlight key countdown events such as those at ICONSIAM and centralwOrld in Bangkok, and in popular cities like Chiang Mai and Hat Yai.
For sports enthusiasts, Thailand’s winter calendar is packed with notable events. Highlights include the Bangsaen 42 Marathon in Chon Buri (3 November), the Laguna Phuket Triathlon (17 November), and the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok on 1 December. These events will draw athletes from across the world, further promoting Thailand as a global sports destination.
The winter festivals will also celebrate Thai cuisine with various food festivals that bring together the country’s diverse culinary scene. Notable events include Food Festi ‘ver’ in Bangkok (11-15 December) and Isan To The World in Khon Kaen (26-29 December), offering visitors a taste of Thailand’s famous dishes.
Music lovers can look forward to some of Thailand’s most anticipated music festivals during this time. Events such as Wonderfruit in Chon Buri (12-16 December) and Rolling Loud Thailand in Pattaya (22-24 November) will feature international and local acts, offering unforgettable experiences to festival-goers.
Adding to the festivities, Thailand’s landmarks will be illuminated with stunning light displays. Noteworthy events include Awakening Bangkok (8-17 November), Vijit Chao Phraya (16 November – 15 December), and the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival (29-30 November), where visitors can experience the country’s cultural heritage through spectacular lighting installations.
The Thailand Winter Festivals, supported by the government’s IGNITE’s THAILAND TOURISM policy, aim to boost tourism, drive sustainable economic growth, and enhance Thailand’s standing as a premier event destination in Southeast Asia.
