KM Malta Airlines is set to enhance connectivity between Malta and Istanbul with the launch of a new direct flight route starting June 2, 2025.
The new service will operate between Malta International Airport (MLA) and IGA Istanbul Airport (IST), marking a significant expansion of the airline’s growing network.
The flights will be operated using KM Malta Airlines’ Airbus A320neo fleet, which has a capacity of 180 passengers and offers both Business and Economy Class options. This new route will provide up to 1,440 weekly seats, giving travelers increased flexibility and convenience.
Flights are scheduled to operate four times a week during the summer season—on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday—while in winter 2025/26, the frequency will be three times a week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Strengthening Trade and Tourism Between Malta and Turkey
The new service is being launched in partnership with Turkish Airlines through a codeshare agreement, allowing seamless connections for passengers traveling beyond Istanbul.
KM Malta Airlines Chairman David Curmi emphasized the significance of the new route, stating:
“This development underscores our commitment to offering passengers expanded travel opportunities. Given Istanbul’s status as a major global hub, this route will further strengthen trade and tourism between Malta and Turkey.”
Similarly, Server Aydın, Chief Commercial Officer at iGA Istanbul Airport, welcomed the airline’s expansion, saying:
“We are delighted to officially welcome KM Malta Airlines to Istanbul. The codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines will ensure uninterrupted connections for travelers and provide a broader range of travel options. This collaboration is set to contribute significantly to the aviation sector.”
Expanding Malta’s Flight Network
The introduction of direct flights between Malta and Istanbul adds to KM Malta Airlines’ expanding European network, which currently includes destinations such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, London, Lyon, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Prague, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich.
Istanbul’s unique position as a bridge between Europe and Asia makes it an exciting addition to KM Malta Airlines’ network, offering a blend of cultural, historical, and modern attractions that appeal to both leisure and business travelers.
With its new direct flights to Istanbul, KM Malta Airlines is set to provide greater connectivity for travelers looking to explore the historic Turkish metropolis or connect to a broader network through Turkish Airlines’ extensive routes. Whether for tourism or business, this new link between Malta and Istanbul is expected to create fresh opportunities for both countries.
