Turkey’s both tourism income and tourist arrivals increase in the first quarter of 2018, according to the latest statistics announced by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
In the first quarter which is January, February and March months of 2018 tourism income increased by 31.3% and reached to $ 4 billion 425 million 237 thousand. While 76.1% of this income (excluding GSM roaming and marina service expenditures) was obtained from foreign visitors, 23.9% was obtained from citizens resident abroad.
Visitors organise their travel individually or with package tour. While individual expenditures constituted $ 3 billion 984 million 962 thousand of the total tourism income, $ 440 million 275 thousand of tourism income was obtained by package tour expenditures.
Average expenditure of the visitors was $ 723 per capita
In this quarter while average expenditure of the foreigners was $ 682 per capita, average expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident abroad was $ 869 per capita.
Number of departing visitors increased by 26.4%
In this quarter number of departing visitors increased by 26.4% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 6 million 122 thousand 182 persons. While 80.2% of visitors was foreign with 4 million 908 thousand 831 persons, 19.8% of them was Turkish citizens resident abroad with 1 million 213 thousand 351 persons.
Tourism expenditure increased by 26.1%
Tourism expenditure which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, increased by 26.1% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to $ 1 billion 79 million 8 thousand. While $ 842 million 277 thousand of total expenditures was individual expenditures, $ 236 million 731 thousand of tourism expenditures was package tour expenditures.
Number of Turkish citizens visited abroad increased by 9.1%
In this quarter number of Turkish citizens visited abroad increased by 9.1% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 2 million 70 thousand 534 persons. Average expenditure was $ 521 per capita.
