New Orleans French Quarter Fest 2026 brings 300 shows and new stages

New Orleans is preparing to host one of its biggest cultural events of the year as French Quarter Festival 2026 returns from April 16 to 19 with more than 300 performances, expanded stages and new visitor experiences.

Organised by French Quarter Festivals, Inc. (FQFI), the four-day event will feature 302 performances, 45 debuts and over 70 local food vendors across 20 stages.

This year’s edition introduces a new riverfront experience at Goldring Woldenberg Riverfront Park at Governor Nicholls Wharf, adding more space for crowds along the Mississippi River. The festival also welcomes Grammy Award-winning New Orleans native PJ Morton as a headline act, marking his return after 12 years.

Organisers say the 2026 programme reflects both growth and a strong focus on local culture, with a lineup that remains 100% New Orleans-based. The event continues to be free and open to the public, with optional VIP packages available for those seeking additional access and amenities.

“French Quarter Festival 2026 is an exciting year for us,” said Emily Madero, President and CEO of FQFI. “With PJ Morton coming back after 12 years, the debut of the Governor Nicholls Wharf Park and hundreds of local artists and chefs taking center stage. This year’s festival is bolder and more unmistakably New Orleans than ever. We can’t wait to welcome locals and visitors to the Quarter.”

The scale of this year’s festival is reflected in several key figures:

  • 302 live performances across 20 stages
  • 45 debut acts joining the 2026 lineup
  • More than 70 local culinary vendors
  • Over 275 dishes showcasing New Orleans cuisine
  • Four days of programming from April 16 to 19

Music remains at the heart of the festival, spanning jazz, brass, funk, R&B, Latin and Zydeco. New and returning stages across the French Quarter and riverfront will host a mix of established artists and emerging performers, while free dance lessons will take place throughout the weekend.

The newly expanded riverfront area will host two major stages, adding to the festival’s footprint and offering visitors additional green space and waterfront views. Other key venues include Jackson Square, Bourbon Street and Royal Street, with programming spread throughout the historic district.

Alongside music, food continues to be a major draw. Local vendors will serve a wide range of dishes, from traditional seafood and Creole classics to new additions joining the festival for the first time. Organisers say the culinary programme highlights the city’s diverse food culture while supporting local businesses.

Key culinary highlights for 2026 include:

  • More than 275 dishes across the festival grounds
  • Signature local favourites such as seafood pasta and beignets
  • New vendors including Spicy Mango and Chicken’s Kitchen
  • Live chef interviews and demonstrations at the culinary stage

Beyond music and food, the festival programme includes a kickoff parade on April 16, a returning 5K run on April 18 and a series of late-night concerts as part of the After Dark programme. A dedicated mobile app has also been updated to help visitors navigate stages, explore food options and plan their schedules.

The event will remain fully cashless in 2026, with payments accepted via cards and digital wallets, while on-site exchange stations will be available for those without cashless options. Organisers are also encouraging voluntary donations to help support local musicians and keep the festival free to attend.

With its expanded footprint, larger programme and continued focus on local culture, French Quarter Festival 2026 is expected to draw both residents and visitors seeking an immersive New Orleans experience.
