Delta is adding special flights to Europe this November for two big football games

Delta Air Lines is adding four extra round-trip flights between the United States and Europe to carry fans travelling to Madrid and Munich for two major international football games in November. The airline said the special services are meant to meet strong demand during a busy travel period and give customers more options.

The extra flights are due to run from 2 U.S. hubs, with departures from Atlanta to Madrid on 4 and 5 November and return service on 9 November. Delta is also adding 2 nonstop flights from Detroit to Munich, both leaving on 11 November and returning on 16 November.

All 4 flights will use Delta’s Airbus A330 aircraft and offer Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main. Tickets are available on delta.com and through the Fly Delta app.

Delta said the schedule is aimed at supporters travelling for the games, including fans of the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, whose official airline partner it is. The airline added that the extra services underline its wider transatlantic strategy, as it continues to invest in its network, fleet and customer experience.

Jeff Arinder, Delta’s vice president for international network planning, said: “There’s nothing like the energy of fans traveling across the Atlantic to rally behind their team, and we’re excited to help make those journeys unforgettable.” He added that the added flights would help customers enjoy “a premium, elevated travel experience from takeoff to touchdown”.

Delta said passengers on the flights could expect chef-curated meals, premium entertainment and fast, free Delta Sync Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members. The airline said the service is intended to make travel easier for customers flying from key U.S. hubs to Europe during the football events.

The additions come as airlines continue to respond to spikes in demand linked to major sports events. International football fixtures often drive short-term travel surges, with fans booking flights and hotels months in advance to attend matches abroad.

For Delta, the move also adds more capacity on transatlantic routes at a time when the airline is seeking to strengthen its presence in Europe. The company said the new services offer flexibility for customers travelling from North America and connect them more directly to two major football destinations.

The November flights are separate from Delta’s regular schedule and are being marketed as special services for game-day travel. The airline has not said whether it expects any further additions linked to the events.
