W Sydney

W Sydney: Marriott’s New Waterfront Wonder Opens

W Hotels, a prominent member of Marriott Bonvoy’s vast 30-brand portfolio, has unveiled its latest masterpiece: W Sydney. This architectural marvel, nestled in Darling Harbour, promises to redefine luxury for both tourists and locals.

Sean Hunt, Area VP for Marriott International in Australia, New Zealand & Pacific, expressed his excitement. “W Sydney isn’t just another hotel; it’s a symbol of a new chapter for W Hotels in Australia. Our unique approach to luxury, combined with our ‘Whatever/Whenever’ service, will surely make W Sydney the heart of Darling Harbour.”

A Dive into Design

The Ribbon houses W Sydney, a creation of the renowned Australian architectural firm, Hassell. London’s Bowler James Brindley has masterfully crafted the interiors, drawing inspiration from Sydney’s rich history and vibrant spirit. The hotel’s design narrative revolves around ‘the larrikin’, an iconic Australian figure, which is evident in its lavish yet unconventional decor.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a W sign, reminiscent of the Australian Waratah flower. The entrance, clad in copper, pays tribute to Sydney’s underground railway history. The Living Room, a reimagined lobby, boasts a ‘Future Noir’ theme, with an electric blue bar and unique seating arrangements. The hotel’s 588 rooms, inspired by its harbourside location, showcase a marine theme with a touch of playful Waratah flower graphics.

Culinary Adventures Await

W Sydney is not just about luxury stays; it’s a culinary paradise. The hotel introduces four new dining and bar venues, each promising a unique experience. BTWN, situated next to the flyover, offers a blend of urban aesthetics and night food market vibes. Chris Dodd, the Head Chef at BTWN, brings the flavors of New South Wales to the table. For those with a sweet tooth, 2AM: dessertbar, in partnership with Janice Wong, is a must-visit. The Living Room’s menu is a nod to Asiatown, focusing on Sake, Soju, and Asian delicacies. 29/30, a two-tiered bar, offers breathtaking harbour views, while the WET Deck bar, inspired by underwater corals, is perfect for tapas and cocktails. Level 30 takes luxury a notch higher with its vintage Champagne offerings and superyacht-inspired decor.

More than Just a Stay

For those seeking relaxation, AWAY Spa offers a unique experience. Designed by Bradley Eastman, the spa boasts five treatment rooms, each promising a rejuvenating experience. The hotel also features a FIT Gym equipped with Technogym gear. The WET Deck, with its open-air infinity pool, is perfect for a leisurely swim while enjoying the Darling Harbour views.

Business Meets Pleasure

W Sydney is not just about leisure; it’s a business hub. Located near Sydney’s International Convention Centre, it offers 1300 square meters of event space. The highlight is the 592 square meter Great Room on level five, offering panoramic city views. The room’s design, inspired by Darling Harbour’s vibrancy, is a tribute to Sydney’s iconic fireworks.

Craig Seaward, General Manager of W Sydney, sums it up, “W Sydney is not just a hotel; it’s an experience. We aim to offer something unique, something that stands out from the traditional hotels in the city. And with our prime location in Sydney’s harbour, we look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world.”
