The European Statistical Office has released the data for the total number of tourism establishments and bed capacities across the European Union (EU) countries for the year 2022.
According to the published data, there are a total of 621,572 tourist establishments in the EU, boasting a combined bed capacity of 28,903,000.
Italy stands out as the country with the highest number of tourist establishments as well as the largest bed capacity. In the previous year, Italy hosted 224,644 tourist establishments, followed by Croatia with 110,493, Spain with 56,174, Germany with 48,742, Greece with 30,221, France with 28,834, and Austria with 23,984.
When it comes to bed capacity, Italy leads with a staggering 5,200,000 beds, followed closely by France with 5,059,000. Spain comes in third with 3,771,000 beds, followed by Germany with 3,611,000, the Netherlands with 1,408,000, Greece with 1,279,000, Croatia with 1,127,000, and Austria with 1,065,000.
The data reveals that Italy and France together hold more than one-third of the total bed capacity available in tourist establishments across the EU. This highlights the significant role these two countries play in the European tourism industry, offering a wide range of accommodation options to cater to the diverse needs of travelers from around the world.
