Bek Air plane crash 2019

Plane Carrying 100 Crashed in Kazakhstan

A plane carrying 95 passengers and 5 crew members on board has crashed near Almaty airport in Kazakhstan, killing at least 15.

According to the Committee for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, the Bek Air plane was bound for Almaty from the capital Nur-Sultan. The aircraft crashed into a building during takeoff.

Almaty airport said on Friday morning that survivors and emergency workers were on the scene in Almerek village, just beyond the end of the runway. The plane lost height before striking a concrete barrier and finally crashed into a building.

The airline announced it had suspended activities as well as the flights of its Fokker 100 type planes until the reason for the incident could be uncovered.

Data provided by Flightradar24 indicated the plane crashed 19 seconds after takeoff, approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the airport.
