Strike Continuous at German Airports

Operations are likely to be disrupted as security personnel at Germany’s major airports will go on strike on Tuesday.

At Frankfurt Airport, the busiest hub of the country, the strike is expected to cause “major disruptions and flight cancellations” throughout the day, operator Fraport said.

“In particular, the security checkpoints outside the transit area will remain closed,” it said on Twitter, advising passengers to check with their airlines and avoid coming to the airport.

Security staff at Hamburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airports will also stage a full-day walkout, according to a statement by the Ver.di trade union.

The union, which represents around 25,000 security staff, is demanding a rise in hourly wages and other improvements in working conditions.

A next round of wage negotiations is expected to take place in Berlin on Wednesday and Thursday.

The strike started on Monday.
