Located on the historic waterfront grounds of Lane Field — the former baseball stadium of the San Diego Padres from 1936 through 1957 — InterContinental San Diego stands 19 stories tall and has 400 guest rooms and suites, not to mention: five onsite restaurants, bars and coffee shops, including an eatery from noted local chefs Paul McCabe and Amy DiBiase, as well as the first West Coast location of Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse; a fourth-floor rooftop pool and sundeck; a Club InterContinental club lounge; and a 3,300-square-foot health and wellness center with a yoga terrace and state-of-the-art video wall for on-demand workout classes.

For groups, the new hotel boasts 95,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including 35,000 square feet of flexible indoor space with natural light in every room and 60,000 square feet of outdoor space, including multiple bay-view terraces and historic Lane Field Park. The hotel’s 12,000-square-foot Pacific Ballroom can host events of up to 1,500 people beside full-length windows that overlook San Diego’s iconic Santa Fe Depot and downtown.

Moxy San Diego is a nine-story, 126-room, millennial-minded boutique hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Spread across nine stories, the 126-room hotel honors the region’s naval history with a camouflage wall in the lobby as well as a shipping container that lines the fitness center.

Sycuan Casino Resort has opened its $260 million hotel and resort expansion in March. The newly expanded resort features a 12-story luxury hotel tower with over 300 guest rooms and 57 suites. The property also boasts state-of-the-art amenities including an expanded gaming area, new restaurants and bars, meeting and event space, a full-service spa and fitness center and a pool and gardens area. Sycuan has also made many improvements to the existing property including new flooring, paint, furniture and several other cosmetic upgrades.

Sycuan has tremendously enhanced its food and beverage offerings with the addition of 10 new restaurants and bars. The new venues include a new casino-defining steakhouse: Bull & Bourbon, a high-end cocktail lounge: Elicit Bar & Lounge, a three-meal restaurant: Viewpoint Neighborhood Kitchen, an industrial brewhouse: Rank & File, a fast-casual market: The unCommons and the popular coffeehouse: Starbucks.

The Guild Hotel, San Diego, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

The Guild, a 162-room Marriott Tribute Portfolio property is located in the heart of downtown San Diego. The Guild is housed in the historic landmark, 1920s-era Army-Navy YMCA building in downtown San Diego. The Italian Renaissance-inspired building at 500 West Broadway is now home to travelers as the Army-Navy YMCA.

The hotel’s mix of six room types feature refined, minimal interiors with custom designed furniture, art and carpeting in a soothing color palette of pale blue, grey and a soft army green, as a direct reference to the property’s origins. The Guild’s signature restaurant, Luca, is a Mediterranean-influenced, al fresco destination serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to hotel guests and locals alike.

Joie de Vivre Hotels and Destination Hotels

Hyatt will open two new adjacent hotels in Oceanside, CA. The properties are expected to open under the Joie de Vivre Hotels and Destination Hotels brands in late 2020. The adjacent hotels together will be the largest oceanfront development in San Diego County in over a decade. Located at the hub of Oceanside’s booming renaissance, the 2.75-acre new-build project along Mission Avenue and North Pacific Street will offer guests immediate beach access and a combined 387 rooms, most with water-facing views.

The Joie de Vivre hotel will be a welcome addition to Oceanside with 161 guest rooms and suites and will feature the renovated “Top Gun” house—the iconic 1887 Graves House featured in the popular 1980s film—which will be accessible to the public. At the hotel, designed by interior design firm EDG, travelers can expect a casual, laid-back, barefoot luxury ambiance. The hotel will also feature a world-class restaurant designed by Los Angeles-based firm Studio Collective, a rooftop pool and bar, and over 3,000 square feet of retail.

The Destination hotel will be a 226-room property situated on the south block of the new development. Complementary to the Joie de Vivre hotel, the Destination property will offer guests an upscale escape and a world-class travel experience, including an elevated 9,000-square-foot pool deck with ocean views, a signature restaurant, bar lounge, luxury spa, library, and over 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel interiors are being designed by San Diego-based firm Bill Bocken Architecture and Interior Design in conjunction with Delawie, while the restaurant is being imagined by Los Angeles-based firm Bells and Whistles.
