Russian Railways and India’s Rail Ministry sign MoU

Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Russian Railways, and Ashvani Lohani, Chairman of the Council of Railways at the Ministry of Railways of the Republic of India, have signed a memorandum of cooperation.

The signing took place in the presence of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi in India’s capital New Delhi on 5 October 2018.

The parties declared their intention to explore the possibilities for cooperation in a number of areas, including the implementation of a project to upgrade the Nagpur-Secunderabad section to increase the speed of passenger trains to 200 kph, the creation of a single dispatch centre for managing multimodal transport, the adaptation and organisation of joint production and the introduction of a competitive signalling system and its elements.

In addition, the parties are ready to consider the possibility of cooperation in the supply and localisation of switches for speeds of up to 200 kph and over, the joint development of multimodal terminals in India and the exchange of best practices in the field of freight traffic, as well as cooperation on personnel.

The document was concluded in the development of a memorandum of understanding between the Indian Railways and OJSC Russian Railways which was signed in 2015nand in addition takes into account the work being done as part of an agreement on the preparation of a justification signed in 2017 regarding the implementation of an express train service on the Nagpur-Secunderabad section.
