Passenger volumes on the Russian Railways network increased by 9.1% in August 2019

According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned and operated by Russian Railways carried almost 108.3 million passengers in August 2019, 9.1% more than in the same month last year.

Suburban commuter numbers amounted to about 94.3 million, an increase of 9.9%, while long-distance passengers rose to almost 14 million, up by 4.3%.

Passenger turnover in August 2019 amounted to 17.3 billion passenger-kilometers, 3.2% more than in August 2018. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 3.1 billion pass-km, an increase of 8.5%, while long-distance passenger turnover rose to 14.2 billion pass-km, up 2.1%.

During January-August 2019, a total of 791.6 million passengers were carried, 5.1% more than in the same period in from January to August 2018. Long-distance passenger numbers rose 5.6% to 80.5 million, while the number of suburban commuters was up 5.1% to 711.1 million.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network increased by 3.5% from January to August 2019 compared to the previous year and amounted to 92.6 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover in January-August was 22.6 billion pass-km, an increase of 5.4%, while long-distance passenger turnover was up by 3% to 70 billion pass-km.

Since the beginning of 2019 to the end of August 2019, the Moscow Central Ring transported 93.2 million passengers, 14.6% more than during the same months last year. Since the Moscow Central Ring began operations on 10 September 2016, more than 360.1 million passengers have used its services.

The Moscow Central Ring carried 561,956 passengers on 3 April 2019, the highest figure since its opening.
