Malaysia Reopens for Tourism, Travel Restrictions Lifted

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Sunday, October 10 announced the lift of interstate and international travel restrictions for residents that are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The decision to lift the restriction on interstate movement was made after the vaccination coverage involving the adult population who have been fully inoculated in the country reached 90 percent.

A total of 21,073,482 individuals or 90 percent of the adult population in the country have completed their Covid-19 vaccination as of Sunday, Oct. 10. A total of 45,650,714 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered since the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP) was rolled out on Feb 24.

The government has agreed to allow fully vaccinated Malaysians to travel overseas without applying for permission.

The new rules take effect today.

The Prime Minister also announced that the government had abolished the MyTravelPass requirement for fully vaccinated Malaysians and those living in the country to travel abroad.

Four major players in Malaysia’s tourism, business events and the airline industry have united in ramping up destination readiness and facilitating Malaysia’s reopening to leisure and business travelers. They establish a Travel Safe Alliance (TSA) Malaysia.
