Accor, a global leader in hospitality, is expanding its portfolio in Malaysia with the introduction of two new hotels in KL – Kuala Lumpur.
These exciting properties, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, will mark the debut of the Grand Mercure brand in the country, alongside a chic new ibis Styles hotel, further enhancing Kuala Lumpur’s dynamic hotel landscape.
A New Chapter for Grand Mercure in Malaysia
For the first time, Malaysia will welcome a Grand Mercure hotel, promising an immersive experience that celebrates the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Strategically located between the bustling Bukit Bintang entertainment hub and the vibrant Chinatown, the new Grand Mercure in Kuala Lumpur is set to offer a luxurious escape for both local and international travelers.
The hotel will feature 325 elegantly designed rooms that showcase Malaysia’s unique cultural elements. Guests can look forward to an all-day dining restaurant that serves a variety of local and international cuisines, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a relaxing pool area. For business travelers, the hotel will provide versatile meeting and event spaces, perfect for both corporate events and social gatherings.
Garth Simmons, Chief Operating Officer of Accor’s Premium, Midscale, and Economy Division in Asia, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch: “Kuala Lumpur is a strategic destination for Accor, and we are thrilled to bring our global brands to this high-potential location. The growth of our premium, midscale, and economy portfolio in Malaysia is a testament to the recognition and trust consistently shown by our guests, investors, and hotel partners in the region.”
ibis Styles: Trendy, Affordable, and Convenient
Adding to the city’s hospitality offerings, the new ibis Styles Kuala Lumpur will provide a trendy yet affordable accommodation option in the heart of the Bukit Bintang district. Known for its design-led approach, ibis Styles will cater to modern travelers who appreciate creativity and convenience without compromising on comfort.
The hotel’s 168 rooms will be designed around a unique theme, offering a vibrant and colorful stay experience. Guests will have access to an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a self-service laundromat, and a modern fitness area. Located just steps away from public transportation, and within walking distance of major shopping malls and dining options, the new ibis Styles will be an ideal choice for both leisure and business travelers.
Carolyn Choo, Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide Hotels Group, highlighted the significance of these signings: “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our journey to enhance the hospitality landscape in Malaysia. Together with Accor, we are confident in delivering exceptional experiences that reflect the unique cultural essence of Kuala Lumpur. We anticipate the opening of these properties in early 2025 and are eager to see the positive impact they will have on the local hospitality sector.”
Accor’s Commitment to Malaysia’s Hospitality Sector
These two new signings are part of Accor’s broader strategy to expand its footprint in Malaysia. The company already operates 24 hotels in the premium, midscale, and economy segments across five brands in the country, including Pullman, Mövenpick, Novotel, ibis, and ibis Styles. With a strong pipeline of 11 additional hotels, Accor is committed to playing a key role in the growth and development of Malaysia’s hospitality industry.
Accor’s introduction of Grand Mercure and ibis Styles in Kuala Lumpur not only signifies the company’s ongoing dedication to this high-potential market but also enhances the city’s appeal as a top destination for travelers seeking diverse and enriching experiences.
