Songkran at Anantara

Celebrate the Thai New Year at Anantara Chiang Mai Resort

Songkran is the Thai New Year’s national holiday and it is a time for blessings, for new beginnings, but also riotous fun.

Its multi-day water fights are world famous, and no city does them better than Chiang Mai. Anantara offers the perfect location from which to enjoy the festivities – close to the centre of the action, yet a quiet place to retreat to in between water fights.

Anantara Chiang Mai Resort is located on the western bank of the Ping River, just five minutes’ drive from Tha Pae Gate, the centre of Chiang Mai’s Songkran festivities. With verdant lawns, the resort is ideal for family play. Immersing guests in the richness of Songkran traditions, there will be Buddha bathing, or song nam phra, at the lobby between the 12th and 15th April.

Feasting comes in the form of an on-site temple fair on the evening of 14th April, with street food stalls, Mekhong whisky cocktails and lively entertainment. There is also the traditional delicacy of khao chae available each day for lunch, perfect for hot summer days.

Guests may enjoy Lanna rituals at the award-winning spa, such as the signature yajoo massage that harnesses the healing powers of indigenous herbs, and a special Songkran ritual of som poi blessing with holy water to wash away ill fortune and start anew in the coming new year.

For guests in the city primarily to join in the excitement of water fighting, the resort’s Songkran Escape prepares them with water guns, splash kits, and complimentary half-day use of a tuk-tuk to find the best fights around the city. The offer also includes daily breakfast and one khao chae lunch set for stays of two nights or more during the period of 12th – 16th April.

Prices start from THB 12,900++ per room per night for the Songkran Escape, and THB 1,200++ per person for the Songkran dinner.
