Maritim Hotels has taken a significant step towards sustainability by introducing e-charging stations across Germany.
With over 20 locations now equipped with these environmentally friendly refuelling points, the hotel chain is catering to the growing number of electric vehicle owners.
This initiative aligns with the increasing demand for green travel solutions and reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability.
“Green and very convenient” is how Erik van Kessel, Managing Director of Operations, describes the new e-charging stations. Over the past few months, van Kessel and his technical team have worked tirelessly to expand the charging infrastructure, which now offers sustainable green electricity to both business and private guests.
“We are primarily concerned with the service we offer our guests, who should be able to charge their electric vehicles conveniently and safely during their stay. We also want to further expand our commitment to sustainability and support our customers in improving their carbon footprint,” he explains.
The rise in electric car ownership, with over 1.4 million electric vehicles and more than 900,000 plug-in hybrids registered in 2024, underscores the relevance of this service.
Many modern travelers, particularly business travelers, find hotels with charging stations more attractive. They prefer the convenience of refueling at their accommodation rather than searching for external options.
“Modern travelers expect a service like this,” van Kessel notes.
“We are delighted to offer this convenience with environmentally friendly green electricity, sending a strong signal for even more sustainability.”
For example, the Maritim Airport Hotel Hannover recently expanded its e-charging structure from five to 26 charging points. These stations, located in the hotel’s underground car park, are accessible via an app or charging card from various providers.
While primarily available to hotel guests, visitors to Hannover-Langenhagen Airport can also use the charging points, with parking fees applicable.
Interest in and demand for electric mobility is increasing across all German Maritim hotels.
This trend suggests that electric charging points may soon become as essential as Wi-Fi in the hotel industry. As van Kessel summarizes, “A strong signal for even more sustainability.”
Maritim Hotels, one of Germany’s largest owner-managed hotel groups, operates a nationwide network and has a presence in six countries overseas, including Mauritius, Egypt, Malta, Bulgaria, Albania, and China.
With this new initiative, Maritim Hotels is not only enhancing guest convenience but also reinforcing its role as a leader in sustainable hospitality.
