Stockholm Is Getting Its First Hotel Indigo and It Comes With a Rooftop Pool

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first Hotel Indigo property in Sweden, bringing the lifestyle hotel brand to Stockholm’s waterfront Kvarnholmen district. The 232-room Hotel Indigo Stockholm – Kvarnholmen is scheduled to open in 2029 and will feature a rooftop pool, spa, gym, restaurant, bar and meeting facilities.

The hotel is being developed by Kvarnholmen Utveckling (KUAB), a joint venture between Peab and JM. It will be leased and operated by 1912 Hotels under a franchise agreement with IHG Hotels & Resorts, marking the first Hotel Indigo in Sweden and expanding IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Northern Europe.

Located in Nacka on Stockholm’s eastern shore, the hotel will be part of the ongoing transformation of Kvarnholmen into a new urban waterfront district. The neighbourhood combines industrial heritage with modern Scandinavian design and offers access to the Stockholm archipelago, the city centre, and a growing cultural and dining scene.

Hotel Indigo is IHG’s neighbourhood-focused lifestyle brand, with each property designed to reflect the character and culture of its local area. The brand now has more than 325 open and pipeline hotels worldwide across almost 50 countries.

The Stockholm property will include 150 sqm of meeting space, wellness and recreational facilities, social areas, an internal atrium with green space, and amenities designed to serve both hotel guests and the local community.

“We are delighted to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm, a city that perfectly embodies the brand’s ethos of celebrating neighbourhood culture through design-led hospitality. Sweden is a market with strong and growing appeal for international and domestic travellers alike, and this signing reflects our commitment to expanding our portfolio across the Nordics. We’re thrilled to deepen our relationship with 1912 Hotels, welcome Peab and JM as new partners, and soon introduce guests to the unique story of Kvarnholmen,” said Willemijn Geels, Vice President, Development, Europe, at IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Johan Gyllberg, Regional Manager, Peab Bostad and representative on the board of KUAB, said: “We are proud to partner with a global hospitality group like IHG Hotels & Resorts on this landmark project and 1912 Hotels as its lease operator. Kvarnholmen is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and Hotel Indigo is the ideal brand to bring a distinctive, design-forward hospitality experience to the neighbourhood. We look forward to welcoming guests to a property that truly reflects the character and ambition of this exciting new district.”

IHG expands Nordic presence

Audun Lekve, CEO of 1912 Hotels GmbH, said: “The signing of Hotel Indigo Kvarnholmen marks an important milestone for 1912 Hotels and our continued growth across the Nordic region. The combination of an exceptional waterfront location, strong local character, and the globally recognised Hotel Indigo brand creates a unique opportunity to develop one of Stockholm’s most distinctive lifestyle hospitality destinations. We are delighted to be partnering with IHG; Peab and JM on this exciting project and look forward to bringing it to life over the coming years.”

The new hotel will join IHG’s growing presence in Sweden, which includes voco Stockholm – Kista and the recently opened Ruby Frida in Stockholm. The company currently has 13 open and pipeline properties across the Nordic region.

Across Europe, Hotel Indigo has 54 open hotels and 22 pipeline properties. Recent additions include Hotel Indigo Gloucester – The Forum and Hotel Indigo London K West Shepherd’s Bush in the UK.
