Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, achieved a historic milestone in 2024 by announcing 85 new signings and opening 40 hotels across its portfolio.
With this achievement, IHCL now operates 360 properties, supported by a robust pipeline of 123 hotels.
The iconic Taj brand played a central role in this growth, contributing 19 of the new signings. Taj, recognized globally for its legacy of luxury and world-class hospitality, now boasts a portfolio of 125 hotels. These signings span metropolitan hubs, pilgrimage destinations, and leisure hotspots in India, alongside key international markets. This growth reflects the rising demand for premium experiences and the growing affluence of travelers.
Ms. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President of Real Estate & Development, attributed the success to IHCL’s strategy, Accelerate 2030. This vision focuses on capital-light investments, which constituted 75% of 2024’s signings. Key milestones include the launch of the reimagined Gateway brand for the upscale segment and IHCL’s acquisition of a majority stake in the Tree of Life boutique leisure brand. IHCL also expanded its luxury portfolio by signing a brand license agreement with The Claridges, starting with managing its landmark New Delhi hotel.
Ms. Deepika Rao, Executive Vice President – Hotel Openings & New Businesses, IHCL added, “2024 marked IHCL’s highest openings at 40 hotels across brands with Ginger launching 10 hotels in the year. Among others, extending the leisure itinerary, hotels were opened in new destinations like Munnar, Mahabaleshwar, Jaisalmer and added to our presence in Goa and Gangtok. Developing the pilgrimage circuit along the east coast of India, a Taj resort in Puri launched with 90 keys and a SeleQtions in Tirupati opened with 118 keys.”
She added, “With the recent opening of a Taj at Cochin International Airport, a joint development with CIAL, Taj has grown its presence across the country’s prominent airports of Mumbai and Bengaluru in addition to the upcoming Taj at New Delhi airport.”
