Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Accelerates Growth with 60 New ECHO Suites, Including First Canadian Locations

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising entity with around 9,100 hotels in over 95 countries, revealed today plans to add 60 new hotels under its ECHO SuitesSM Extended Stay by Wyndham brand. This expansion will include the brand’s first hotels in Canada.

The latest expansion continues Wyndham’s strategy of partnering with experienced developers for multi-unit deals. Notably, this includes a partnership with MasterBUILT Hotels, a Canadian developer responsible for more than two dozen Microtel by Wyndham hotels across Canada. This addition will significantly boost the ECHO Suites brand’s pipeline, bringing the global total to 265 hotels and approximately 33,000 rooms.

The ECHO Suites brand, announced last year, has generated significant interest from extended-stay developers. This has contributed to its recognition as the fastest-growing brand launch of 2022. “The addition of MasterBUILT, one of Canada’s top hotel development companies, underscores the ECHO prototype’s quality and its ROI-driven design, which offers some of the most rentable square-footage in the industry,” said Chip Ohlsson, chief development officer, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Founded in 2011, MasterBUILT Hotels is one of Canada’s rapidly growing hotel development and investment firms. The company is known for its expertise in site evaluation, project design, and project management. Its partnership with Wyndham has facilitated the construction of over two dozen Microtel by Wyndham hotels across all 10 Canadian provinces, with more projects currently in development.

MasterBUILT’s CEO, David Donaldson, praised Wyndham’s approach with ECHO Suites, stating that its success is attributable to the meticulous care put into the brand’s design. The upcoming projects in Virginia, Texas, South Carolina, and beyond, combined with Wyndham’s aim of opening 100 hotels over the next five years, are expected to enhance Wyndham’s portfolio significantly starting from 2024.

The ECHO Suites prototype, designed as a purpose-built, all new-construction, 124-room hotel, requires less than two acres of land. It offers competitively priced rooms averaging 300 square feet, including single and two-queen studio suites with kitchens, along with efficiently designed public spaces.
