Minor Hotels has appointed Erik Billgren as General Manager of Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort and Villas, the multi-award-winning property set on one of Thailand’s last unspoiled islands. The resort, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, is located on Koh Yao Yai and is reachable by speedboat in 35 minutes from Phuket or 30 minutes from Krabi.
Billgren brings more than two decades of specialised experience in Asian hospitality to the role, with a background spanning food and beverage, sales, investment and consultancy. His appointment signals Minor Hotels’ continued focus on strengthening leadership at its flagship Thailand properties.
A graduate of Australia’s Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, Billgren joined Minor Hotels in 2021 as General Manager of Anantara Mui Ne Resort in Vietnam. He subsequently held general manager positions at Anantara Quy Nhon Villas in Vietnam and Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort in Sri Lanka before taking up his new post on Koh Yao Yai.
“I am humbled to be given the opportunity to lead one of Anantara’s flagship properties in Southern Thailand,” said Erik Billgren, General Manager, Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort and Villas. “Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort and Villas is truly unique and has an exceptional team in place. The combination of nature and culture, combined with a world-class product and commitment to total guest satisfaction, is the foundation of what will make the resort continue to grow in success in the years ahead.”
“Erik brings a unique vision to hospitality, as well as a proven track record of success,” said Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International. “We are delighted he takes the helm of one of our most high-profile Thailand properties, and look forward to seeing him take it to even greater heights.”
In his new role, Billgren will oversee all aspects of the resort’s operations while focusing on delivering authentic cultural immersions that reflect Koh Yao Yai’s distinct island character. He will also work to deepen relationships with trade partners, travel advisors, corporate clients, and MICE and wedding organisers, with the aim of expanding the property’s reach in key markets.
Anantara Koh Yao Yai Resort and Villas is an all-suite, villa and penthouse property situated on a private stretch of beach. The resort offers guests direct access to the island’s natural landscape and local culture, positioning it as one of southern Thailand’s most distinctive luxury destinations.
Minor Hotels operates a portfolio of more than 550 properties across 56 countries under brands including Anantara, Avani, Oaks and NH Hotels. The group has significantly expanded its presence in Southeast Asia in recent years, with Thailand remaining a core market for its premium and ultra-luxury offerings.
