American Airlines is gearing up to widen its international network in 2024 by adding more nonstop flights to highly sought-after destinations.
In a move that anticipates travel trends, the airline will begin new services to Tulum, Mexico, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the splendors of ancient ruins and picturesque beaches starting next spring. Additionally, in a strategic application to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), American aims to become the sole U.S. carrier to offer nonstop flights between New York’s JFK and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND).
Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning, highlighted the airline’s mission to provide comprehensive global connectivity. With the largest number of flights to Tulum from the U.S., American Airlines is set to become the go-to carrier for travelers visiting the Riviera Maya’s treasured locales.
In a bid to strengthen intercity connections, American has petitioned the DOT to sanction daytime flights between JFK and HND. If approved, this service will operate all year round, adding a vital link to American’s existing routes and complementing flights provided by their partner, Japan Airlines. This proposed service is set to enhance the options for passengers traveling between the United States and Japan.
Molly Wilkinson, American’s Vice President of Regulatory and International Government Affairs, emphasized the unique opportunity the airline has to offer the only nonstop service by a U.S. airline from JFK to Tokyo. This service would not only expand American’s East Coast gateway to Haneda but also provide New York, the largest U.S. metropolitan area, with additional travel options to one of the world’s key business centers.
Beginning March 28, American will launch four daily nonstop flights to Tulum (TQO). These flights will connect seamlessly with over 200 destinations, offering comprehensive access to the Riviera Maya. This expansion builds upon American’s substantial winter service to Cancun (CUN), further solidifying its position as a leader in vacation travel.
Flights to Tulum will feature the modern comforts of Boeing 737 aircraft, complete with high-speed Wi-Fi, a vast selection of streaming entertainment, and in-seat power for all passengers. Travelers can start booking their Tulum getaway beginning November 13 on American’s website and mobile app.
Looking ahead to summer 2024, American is set to enhance its service across Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. With over 90 destinations and the most nonstop options available, American Airlines continues to be at the forefront of offering new adventures to its customers. Starting June 5, 2024, the airline will ramp up its services on several regional routes, further establishing its dominance in the market for summer travel.
