This summer, American Airlines will facilitate travel to Japan by launching a new direct flight service from New York (JFK) to Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport (HND). The U.S. Department of Transportation recently granted American Airlines exclusive rights to operate this nonstop route, making it the sole U.S. airline to offer direct flights between JFK and HND.
“American looks forward to launching flights between JFK and HND this summer,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning.
“This new service will complement flights offered by our joint business partner, Japan Airlines, giving more ways for our customers travel between the U.S. and Japan.”
Starting February 26, travelers can book their tickets through American Airlines’ website or its mobile application.
This service, beginning on June 28, aims to enrich the already extensive flight network between the U.S. and Japan, established in collaboration with Japan Airlines. With this new route, passengers will have the choice of up to three daily flights between JFK and HND at various times, ensuring convenience for travelers.
The introduction of American Airlines’ daily flight will also broaden connectivity, offering seamless roundtrip connections to over 30 cities in Japan and East Asia via Japan Airlines. This includes access to major destinations like Osaka, Sapporo, and Fukuoka.
Moreover, the JFK-HND route adds to American Airlines’ roster of direct flights to HND, joining the airline’s current operations that include a daily flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and two daily flights from Los Angeles (LAX).

The joint business partnership between American and Japan Airlines will offer customers up to 17 daily flights between the continental United States and Japan next summer, including 10 daily flights to HND. Together, the two airlines will offer customers the following convenient schedule to Japan next summer.
