ANA, Air India Expand Codeshare for Smoother India-Japan Travel

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Air India are enhancing their partnership with an expanded codeshare agreement set to take effect on March 30, 2025.

The new arrangement will provide more seamless connections for travelers flying between Japan and India, opening up additional domestic routes in both countries.

ANA, Japan’s largest airline and a Star Alliance member, will begin codesharing on Air India’s new Haneda-Delhi route and six other destinations across India. This move will allow passengers traveling to India via Delhi Airport to transfer smoothly within Terminal 3, eliminating the need for lengthy terminal changes.

At the same time, Air India will extend its codeshare to include six domestic destinations in Japan served by ANA from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. These destinations include Osaka (Itami), Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Okinawa, and Hiroshima, offering Indian travelers easier access to major Japanese cities.

“To promote increased exchange between Japan and India, ANA is expanding its codeshare partnership with Star Alliance partner Air India to enhance its network,” said Katsuya Goto, ANA’s Executive Vice President of Alliances and International Affairs.

“This expansion, with a focus on the increased codeshare options from Delhi to six destinations within India, will provide customers with more opportunities and seamless connections, delivering a satisfying experience for premium customers in particular.”

For Air India, this strengthened partnership represents a major step in improving connectivity with Japan. “Our deepened partnership with ANA opens up Japan like never before for our guests,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India.

“By providing easy access for our guests to ANA’s domestic Japan network, combined with ANA’s reach into Air India’s extensive Indian network, we’re creating a stronger bridge between our two nations—making travel simpler and truly rewarding for our common guests.”

The codeshare rollout will follow a phased schedule:

  • March 30 – Codeshare on domestic routes beyond Delhi in India
  • March 31 – Air India launches the Haneda-Delhi route
  • April 1 – Codeshare begins on ANA’s six domestic routes in Japan

As part of the partnership, ANA Mileage Club members will continue to earn and redeem mileage on Air India flights, and Star Alliance members will have access to shared benefits, including priority services and lounge access.

With this expanded network, travelers can expect a smoother journey between India and Japan, benefiting from more flight options, reduced transit times, and greater convenience.
