EasyJet pilots are planning a strike on Sunday, October 27, which is expected to cause significant flight cancellations and delays across Europe.
The strike will take place between 1 pm and 5 pm, affecting thousands of passengers booked on the low-cost airline.
As the largest airline in the United Kingdom by passenger volume, EasyJet’s operations are likely to face considerable disruption.
Passengers affected by the strike are entitled to certain rights under European law. In 2021, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that any strike by airline staff falls under the responsibility of the airline. This means EasyJet is required to offer full refunds, rebookings on alternative flights, and compensation for those facing delays of more than three hours.
Affected passengers should also receive free meals, refreshments, and accommodation if necessary. Compensation amounts range between 420 and 620 euros, depending on the circumstances of the disruption.
Given these regulations, travellers with upcoming EasyJet flights should stay informed and prepare for possible changes to their travel plans.
In August, easyJet canceled over 200 flights to and from Portugal due to a three-day cabin crew strike, affecting roughly one-sixth of its scheduled operations in the country.
Earlier, in May, the airline warned passengers about potential delays and disruptions caused by air traffic control strikes, primarily impacting flights in and out of France, though services to other destinations were also affected.
According to easyJet’s website, passengers whose flights are canceled can switch to an alternative flight for free, opt for a voucher equivalent to their booking, or request a refund. If the next available flight is scheduled for the following day, the airline will provide hotel accommodation if necessary.
