EL AL Orders Up to 31 Boeing 737 MAX Jets in Largest Deal Ever

EL AL Israel Airlines has finalized an order for up to 31 Boeing 737 MAX jets.

This historic purchase marks the largest airplane order in the airline’s 76-year history, signaling a new era of growth and innovation for the Israeli flag carrier.

The deal, which will see EL AL replace its current Next-Generation 737 airplanes, is a pivotal step in the airline’s long-term strategy to enhance its fleet with more efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft. The 737 MAX family offers superior per-seat economics, reduced fuel consumption, and a smaller noise footprint, making it a crucial asset for EL AL’s future operations.

Dina Ben-Tal Ganancia, CEO of EL AL Israel Airlines, expressed her excitement about the deal, highlighting its importance for the airline’s future. “This is a significant milestone for EL AL, which will allow us to offer our customers the most advanced service and technology experience in the industry,” she said.

The new aircraft will play a central role in the airline’s strategy to increase capacity, expand its value proposition, and ensure the long-term growth of the company.

Busan Green and Growing

Ben-Tal Ganancia also emphasized the broader impact of the order on Israel’s aviation landscape. “EL AL has a central role in ensuring open skies for Israel. The implementation of our strategic plan will ensure a strong and growing company for many years to come.”

A Strengthened Partnership with Boeing

The order reinforces the longstanding relationship between EL AL and Boeing, a partnership that has spanned over seven decades. Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed her gratitude for EL AL’s continued trust in Boeing’s products. “We are honored EL AL has chosen Boeing airplanes to power its past, present and future as we continue to build on seven decades of partnership,” she said.

The addition of the 737 MAX jets to EL AL’s fleet will enhance the airline’s operational efficiency, reducing fuel use and emissions by 20% compared to the airplanes they will replace. This aligns with Boeing’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, as the company continues to lead in developing environmentally responsible aircraft.

Expanding Horizons with the 787 Dreamliner

This 737 MAX order follows an earlier purchase of three additional 787-9 Dreamliners, with options for six more, as EL AL continues to expand its widebody fleet. The first of these new Dreamliners is expected to be delivered this year, with two more to follow on lease in the coming years. This expansion underscores EL AL’s commitment to offering a premium travel experience with state-of-the-art aircraft.

As EL AL embarks on this new chapter, the airline’s leadership is confident that the modernization of its fleet will set the stage for sustained growth and innovation, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the global aviation industry.
