EL AL Israel Airlines has finalized an order for up to 31 Boeing 737 MAX jets.
This historic purchase marks the largest airplane order in the airline’s 76-year history, signaling a new era of growth and innovation for the Israeli flag carrier.
The deal, which will see EL AL replace its current Next-Generation 737 airplanes, is a pivotal step in the airline’s long-term strategy to enhance its fleet with more efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft. The 737 MAX family offers superior per-seat economics, reduced fuel consumption, and a smaller noise footprint, making it a crucial asset for EL AL’s future operations.

The order reinforces the longstanding relationship between EL AL and Boeing, a partnership that has spanned over seven decades. The addition of the 737 MAX jets to EL AL’s fleet will enhance the airline’s operational efficiency, reducing fuel use and emissions by 20% compared to the airplanes they will replace. This aligns with Boeing’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, as the company continues to lead in developing environmentally responsible aircraft.
Expanding Horizons with the 787 Dreamliner
This 737 MAX order follows an earlier purchase of three additional 787-9 Dreamliners, with options for six more, as EL AL continues to expand its widebody fleet. The first of these new Dreamliners is expected to be delivered this year, with two more to follow on lease in the coming years. This expansion underscores EL AL’s commitment to offering a premium travel experience with state-of-the-art aircraft.
