Etihad Airways is adding Medan, Indonesia, to its growing list of destinations, offering travelers a new way to explore Northern Sumatra.
Starting October 2, 2025, the airline will launch three weekly flights between Zayed International Airport (AUH) in Abu Dhabi and Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) in Medan, using its modern A321LR aircraft.
The announcement makes Medan the latest of 14 new destinations introduced by Etihad this year, reflecting the airline’s strategy to expand its global network and provide more travel options for leisure and business passengers alike.
A Gateway to Northern Sumatra
Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, is a city full of cultural heritage, vibrant food markets, and historic sites. Known as Indonesia’s gateway to Lake Toba, the world’s largest volcanic lake, and the lush jungles of Sumatra, the city attracts travelers looking for both urban excitement and natural wonders.
With Etihad’s new route, visitors from the Middle East, Europe, and beyond will find it easier than ever to experience Indonesia’s hidden gems, from the rich flavors of Medan’s culinary scene to the breathtaking landscapes of Sumatra.
The new Abu Dhabi-Medan route is strategically scheduled to allow passengers to maximize their leisure breaks, offering a smooth travel experience with seamless connections via Abu Dhabi to Etihad’s global destinations. The addition of Medan strengthens Etihad’s presence in Southeast Asia, complementing its existing routes to Jakarta and Bali.
Etihad’s A321LR aircraft will serve the route, providing passengers with enhanced comfort, modern cabin features, and fuel-efficient travel. The airline’s commitment to sustainability aligns with its expansion plans, ensuring passengers can enjoy both affordability and efficiency.
