EUROCAE and EUROCONTROL have reinforced their collaboration with an updated Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), furthering their shared mission of enhancing European aviation safety, efficiency, and interoperability.
This renewed agreement, signed by EUROCAE Director General Anna von Groote and EUROCONTROL Director General Raúl Medina, builds upon their previous 2021 agreement and marks a new phase in the development of aviation regulations and standardisation efforts.
The MoC establishes a structured framework for both organisations to work more closely on European aviation standards, ensuring that safety, technology, and regulatory advancements align with industry needs. It also includes a focus on standardisation roadmaps, which will guide the industry toward improved air traffic management (ATM) and broader aviation sector goals.
Aviation Standards at the Core of Innovation
Standards play a critical role in shaping the future of aviation by fostering global interoperability and ensuring a high level of safety and efficiency. Anna von Groote emphasised how these standards are essential for driving technological progress in air traffic management and the wider aviation industry.
“Standards are the cornerstone of innovation in ATM,” said von Groote. “They provide the essential framework that enables the development, integration, and widespread adoption of cutting-edge technologies. These standards are vital in ensuring safety, fostering global interoperability, and promoting international harmonisation.”
The renewed collaboration between EUROCAE and EUROCONTROL aims to maximise synergies by leveraging each organisation’s expertise in aviation regulation. This partnership is set to streamline technological integration and advance sustainable aviation practices.
Keeping European Aviation Future-Ready
As the aviation industry evolves, the demand for robust and adaptable standards is increasing. The updated MoC will help both organisations address emerging challenges, including airspace management, digitalisation, and sustainability.
Raúl Medina, Director General of EUROCONTROL, highlighted the importance of staying ahead of industry changes through effective standardisation efforts.
“This new Memorandum of Cooperation is a testament to our ongoing commitment to collaborate on standardisation matters that are fundamental to the aviation sector. Robust and timely standards are vital to ensuring that European aviation remains safe, efficient, and sustainable—both now and in the future.”
He also pointed out that by working together, EUROCAE and EUROCONTROL can avoid duplication, improve coordination, and ensure that aviation standards continue to meet the evolving needs of air traffic management.
The renewed agreement reaffirms EUROCAE and EUROCONTROL’s dedication to improving European and global aviation by creating clear, effective, and up-to-date standards. With air traffic management continuing to grow in complexity, the need for a coordinated approach to regulatory frameworks and technological adaptation has never been more pressing.
By aligning their efforts, EUROCAE and EUROCONTROL are ensuring that the future of European aviation remains innovative, safe, and efficient—keeping the skies prepared for the challenges ahead.
